What is a groove or a zip?
Grooved, scored or pickled?
In order to fold thicker cardboard, it needs to be processed to avoid cracking or breaking.
This can be done in different ways:
- Rilla
- Ritsa
- Biga
groove
A crease is a cut-out groove, a chamfer on the inside of the cardboard that allows it to fold at 90 degrees.
There are other variations, such as the U-groove. It is used to give the cardboard a flexible hinge, for example for a folder or binder.
Zips
In contrast to the groove, a score is made in the outside of the cardboard. It is a cut line that does not go all the way through the cardboard but leaves enough material to hold the construction together.
Big
A crease is a sharply pressed groove in the material that allows it to be folded. The process of creasing is the same as scoring, but the tool used is not sharp, so instead of cutting, the tool compresses the material.
